Whole class was busy in their own topics when A long heighted man entered into the classroom, with a face full of beard which was slightly white, long hairs; his eyes were under the protection of a spectacles of larger lens frame, he dressed up with a white colored gingham shirt with folded sleeves up to the elbows and wearing a sleeveless jacket on it and a black colored crumpled semi formal trouser with white sport shoes. A black colored college bag was lying on his right shoulder.
He cast a glance all over the class, smiled slightly and starts walking towards the blackboard; he stood in front of the first desk in the middle row and coughs sarcastically to seek everyone’s attention towards him but still no one had noticed him not even felt that someone new is standing in front of them. He took a deep breath and took out his mobile phone from the right pocket of his trouser and played the music on it, everyone’s necks were rotated towards that sound. They were confused, frightened, surprised and quite happy; all of them could not figure out that how to react because as they rotated their necks towards the music they saw that an old man was dancing in the class. For a while, all the students were frozen due to the fear but then they start enjoying the dance of that old man and they all were shouting, cheering that man, whistling, clapping, even some over excited students were dancing upon the desk. Everyone who was passing from the passage was stopped watching the buzz going on in that classroom, and the mess which created from paper planes, chocolate wrappers and so many things all over the classroom. After few minutes’ music stopped and everyone got relaxed and lies on their desks and shouts together, Hurray!
Mr. Wilson the principle of that college entered the classroom as someone has informed him about the mess going on here; he asked that old man in high pitch of voice, “Who are you? Why are you creating a scene and making the students of this college indiscipline?”
That old man put the bag on his shoulder to a wooden chair; he opened the chain of his bag, pulled out an envelope from his bag which was full of some pens, a wallet, and a crumbled news paper roll, some torn paper chit looks like a trash or scrap. That old man gives the envelope to the principle. Mr. Wilson opens the envelope and reads the paper in that envelope which was looking like an official letter, as he finishes reading the letter; he offers that old man to shake hand and says,
” hello, Mr. Thomas Lewis what was that why are you dancing like that?” Mr. Wilson asks politely.
“Look Mr. Wilson these kids are young they could get bored if I came, introduced myself and started teaching them, so I thought I should make them comfortable first , I should make a strong bonding between mine and them that is why all of this drama happened. And it was really fun” Mr. Lewis replied.
Mr. Wilson smiled slightly put his hand on Mr. Lewis’s shoulder they both turned towards the students and Mr. Wilson said,” Dear students meet your new history professor Mr. Thomas Lewis”
Everyone got shocked as they were thinking that their new professor of ‘history’ will be a bore, strict, hard- bitten faced, snobbish character, but the man standing in front of them which was introduced as the professor of the history a couple of moments before. He was a old as expected but he made all the pre assumptions about him false as he was a jolly behavioral, with sporty personality just as a grandpa, who is a partner in crime with every grandchildren, as in whole manner Mr. Lewis’s impression was great in eyes of students in college.
“So, guys how you are all doing!” Mr. Lewis.
“Great!” the whole class yelled excitedly.
“Are you all excited about lecture?” Mr. Lewis.
“Yes sir.” Everyone said.
“Oh, so you guys are ready to get knowledge of history from me. But I am not ready to teach you all.” Mr. Lewis said
And everyone’s face was like, ‘is this old man high on drugs or what as he introduced himself he is a professor of history so he is supposed to teach us and he says he cannot teach us.’
Mr. Lewis chuckled and continued,” I am not ready to teach you means don’t u all thinks that just after coming to the class if I will start teaching you a subject like history isn’t that would be a boring task. I think we should interact with each other. As a student it is your Right to know you teacher. And by the words,’ to know your teacher I did not mean just to know my name and which subject do I teach. I mean to say that you should understand me as a person and what do you think of me as a human being, okay!” Mr. Lewis said and everyone in the classroom nodded their heads with mesmerizing expressions. That is because they have never seen a teacher who is as friendly as Mr. Lewis.
“So guys, you can ask me anything that pops up in your mind.”Mr. Lewis.
“Professor what have you studied? please tell us about your academics.” Derek asked
“I am doctorate in history I have completed my doctorate from Harvard university.” Mr. Lewis.
“Sir, why do you complete your studies in a boring subject like history?” James asked and everyone laughed.
Mr. Lewis smiled and answered,” who told you that history is a boring subject? What is your name boy?”
“James” he replied.
“James why do you think that history is boring subject?” Mr. Lewis.
“I think that something that has happened in the past why to study about that.” James.
“Anyone else who thinks that history is a boring subject?” Mr. Lewis.
“It has so many dates and time periods to be remembered.” Tony.
“It is so lengthy and hard language subject.” Sofia said.
“Okay I understood your concerns. Tell me in childhood have your heard stories from your grandparents and have you enjoyed them?” Mr. Lewis.
“Yes!” everyone.
“History is subject based on stories. But the difference is your childhood stories were all imaginary and the stories in the history are the real stories that are happened in the past. A wise man once said, ‘to build the future you should know the history.’ Suppose your exams are declared if you have studied it before you will recall answers immediately and if u have not studied properly it will be difficult for you to answer the questions in the exams. This explains that your past actions puts an impact on your present situation and eventually on your future too. That is why we should know and study the history. So we will understand what mistakes did human did in past which affected world and how can we overcome it. Understood?” Mr. Lewis.
“Yes sir.” everyone.
“Speaking about stories on the first lecture I will tell you a story are you excited guys.” Mr. Lewis.
“Yes sir.” everyone yelled out.
“Okay! Then tell me in which genre would you all like to hear the story?” Mr. Lewis asked.
“Professor how we can tell you the subject to tell you the story, you are elder we will be happy with any subject you would pick for the story to tell.” Derek started to become cheesy with professor to acquire his attention. But this times every supported Derek and said yes to what Derek said.
“Well then if you all insist so much me to decide the genre of the story on my own I will decide the subject as horror comedy.”
“Mr. Lewis please can you change the topic. The thing is I am little bit scared of the horror category.” Tony said.
“Hey, sacredly cat.” Some students whispered but Mr. Lewis’s sharp ears heard it.
He bangs the blackboard wiper on the front desk and warned everyone,” No teasing or any kind of bullying in my class and this college either. If I will find out that anyone is troubling someone I will make sure that trouble maker will not be able to come to this college or in this university campus ever again. Take this as a warning this is not a joke.”
Mr. Lewis pulls out a bottle of water out of his bag takes some sip of water puts that bottle back to the bag. Then he closes his eyes and takes some deep breathe calms his mind and looks over to the students in which some of them were frightened, scared and some were shocked that the easy going person they saw some moments before can be this angry.
Mr. Lewis smiles a bit and says,” what is your name kid?”
“I am Tony.” Tony replies.
“Don’t worry Tony it will be a funny story.” Mr. Lewis.
“Shall we start now?” Mr. Lewis.
“Yes!” everyone.
“Once there was a village in the mountains. A thing was spread in the village that on one of the mountains on the outskirts of the village a ghost lives. In that village a traditional wrestler named as Travis was living. As he was a wrestler he had a strong physique, everyone in the village respects him. He was strong physically but he was too afraid of things such as ghosts, spirits and other such things. On one day during the night time in the spring season he was coming back to the village and was walking on that infamous haunted mountain. It was a full moon in the sky. He was in hurry as he was too scared.
Suddenly, a man met him at the mountain,
“Hey, man where are you from?” that person asked to the Travis.
“I am from the village downside.” Travis replied.
“Okay.” That person was speaking but Travis could not hear a single word.
After a bit Travis just turned his head to the side but that person was not there.
Travis thought that the person he met was a ghost, he ran off as it was the last day of his life and if he stops running he will die.
After some time that person whom Travis met comes out from behind a tree, he went there to smoke cigarettes. As he comes back he saw that Travis was not there. He thinks that Travis was a ghost and he also ran off.”
Everyone starts laughing.
“Okay class, did you liked the story?” Mr. Lewis asked to the classroom.
“Yes sir!” everyone.
“So guys, tell me what do you think what is your opinion on this story what might have the hidden message in the story what might be its moral?” Mr. Lewis.
“Do one thing tony you tell me what you learned from this story.” Mr. Lewis.
“Sir, I think this tale tells us about we should overcome our inner fears on our own no one helps us to do so.” Tony.
“Nice! Even I wasn’t thought about this aspect of this tale. Anyone else?” Mr. Lewis.
“Focus on the goal or destination so distraction will not bother you.” Derek.
“Be aware of the ghosts.” Charlie said, everyone laughed even Charlie too. Mr. Lewis smiled.
“Sir, I think it is about the verbal strength or power of words and also a bit of superstition. Look, the entire ghost thing spread in the village and no one knows the first primary source of that information. That Intel might be taken care to reach everyone in the village intentionally; so that no one will come to that part of the village it might be a cover up story made up just to hide something that is illegal. Although people in the village didn’t used logic not even in curiosity to unfold that secret on the mountain and believed the tale blindly. It shows that the human mind and brain is so complex that if a person knows that anything is false or fake or unreal even so that person believes in it if it is scary. So the moral of the story is, never blindly trust everything that you hear or see unless you confirm and verify the truth behind it on your own. Whatever it would be a meal, person, story, never trust blindly. Think, analyze, verify then react and take further actions.” George said.
Whole class got stunned.
Mr. Lewis looks at George and thinks,” impressive!”
Lecture bell rings.
“Okay then class, I think that is it for today we will meet tomorrow.” Mr. Lewis said and left the classroom.
